The Outer Banks in North Carolina is home to some of the hottest new artists in the state, if not the country. Though most of these musicians have yet to gain national prominence, many have amassed a loyal local following. With plenty of talented singers, songwriters and performers, it’s only a matter of time before the hottest artists in the Outer Banks area become known coast to coast. There’s no pigeonholing these artists – acts range from country music to bagpiping and everything in between.

The recently released compilation CD “Outer Banks Sounds,” is a great way for fans to discover and support local talent. Hot Outer Banks artists such as Low Pressure and Underground District are featured on the CD, which can be bought through the Dare County Arts Council. Another popular local band that didn’t quite make it into the CD is The Delimiters, which plays sets throughout the area.

For those looking to discover their new favorite band, the best way is to attend the live performances held at venues and festivals all across the state. The recent Outer Banks Beach Music Festival and Blues and Brews Festival are two examples of events music lovers shouldn’t miss, but there are plenty more. Local venues such as Port O’ Call and Kelly’s also often host up and coming bands, providing a good time for music lovers and musicians alike.

The Outer Banks is somewhat of a mecca for up-and-coming musical talent. With a variety of genres represented amongst its ranks, the area has a little something for everyone. If you are looking to book an event or just enjoy an impressive live show, consider checking out one of the regions’ finest musicians.

Molasses Creek’s folk balladry is a staple in the Outer Banks, and the release of their latest album, ‘An Island Out of Time’ is sure to please their local fans, as well as those across the globe. Their memorable performances keep the crowds coming back for more. In an altogether different vein are the musical stylings of Lloyd Khan, whose distinctive electronic, funky-blues sound defies easy categorizing. Khan’s ‘Inner Sanctum’ is a must-listen.

Greg Shelton has been rocking the wedding circuit in the Outer Banks for two dozen years and has over 35 years to his credit in the music industry. With his exceptional blend of classic rock and rhythm and blues interpretations, he’s known for creating an atmosphere that is both fun and personal. If you have the chance, be sure to take a listen to Out N the Cold, whose unique brand of bluegrass and tight harmonies have delighted audiences for over three decades.
